FESR: healthy and responsible dog breeding
The Fédération pour un Élevage Sain et Responsable: supporting breeders, sharing knowledge and building a health-led approach to breeding.
Support breeders, share knowledge, build the future
FESR is a French association under the law of 1 July 1901. Its aim is to make regulations and protocols easier to understand, help structure breeding and screening plans, connect people with appropriate professionals and share practical tools.
The breeder remains responsible for decisions and compliance. Association support does not replace veterinary diagnosis, individual legal or accounting advice, or administrative approval.
A practical approach to screening
- Start with the breed and its current recommendations
- Study the line, relatives and age at disease onset
- Distinguish validated DNA tests from clinical examinations
- Choose the appropriate veterinarian, specialist or official reader
- Authenticate the dog and sample when official recognition is required
- Interpret results, inheritance and diversity before planning a mating
- Archive original reports and share useful results with consent
Understand the French framework
Activity registration, recognised knowledge, sanitary organisation, suitable facilities, traceability and compliant transfers form a coherent whole. The French authorities and the applicable consolidated texts determine the requirements for each situation.
Apply to join FESR
Active breeders, people preparing a breeding project and animal-sector professionals can introduce their situation. FESR will contact you to finalise the application. No membership fee or payment is currently requested.
