Cavalier health: heart, CM/SM, eyes and DNA
Understand Cavalier King Charles Spaniel screening: mitral valve disease, cardiac ultrasound, CM/SM MRI, eye checks, patellas, EFS and CKCSID.

Heart: mitral valve disease
MMVD affects the mitral valve. Auscultation and Doppler echocardiography help document a dog's condition and changes over time. Read the date, age, measurements and veterinary interpretation together. No single genetic result replaces cardiac follow-up.
MRI: Chiari-like malformation and syringomyelia
MRI evaluates CM and SM. These findings cannot be established by a standard DNA panel. The examination protocol, age and interpretation all matter. Our home participates in MRI research with Oniris in Nantes.
Eyes and patellas
An eye examination checks for clinically detectable abnormalities, including conditions not covered by DNA testing. A patella examination assesses stability. Ask for the actual dated reports and the identity of the examined dog.
DNA: EFS, CKCSID and other variants
DNA results concern the variants tested, including episodic falling syndrome and the curly coat/dry eye syndrome. Interpret each result according to its inheritance pattern and with the partner's result. Heart disease and CM/SM are not ruled out by a clear genetic panel.
