Key ideas
Assess planning rules, neighbours, access, water, ventilation, electricity, waste, flood risk and secure exercise areas before committing to a site. Separate everyday housing, maternity, isolation and storage according to the needs and sanitary plan.
Calculate the maximum dog population present, including retained youngsters, retired dogs and boarding dogs where relevant. Ask the authority to confirm the applicable ICPE category and capacity. Keep a plan showing animal flows and clean and dirty areas.
