Understanding the Cavalier's eyes
Eye anatomy and screening in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: why clinical examinations and genetic tests are complementary.

Different structures, different functions
The cornea is the clear front surface, the lens focuses light, and the retina receives the image. Tears help protect the surface. An eye examination assesses these structures and searches for abnormalities.
An eye certificate and a DNA result are complementary
Clinical screening can identify abnormalities that a genetic panel does not cover. Genetic tests identify specific variants, including those associated with curly coat/dry eye syndrome. Read the examination date and the exact test rather than interpreting a general 'clear' label as protection against every eye condition.
